Four Men Receive the Capuchin Habit

In July, four of our brothers took the next step in their Capuchin journey. Br. Hunter Whalen, Br. Daniel Leon, Br. Ben Combs, and Br. Cassian Santos (formerly Joel) were officially invested as novices at San Lorenzo Seminary in Santa Ynez.

After spending the last year as postulants, they entered the novitiate during a simple and joyful ceremony surrounded by friars, family, and friends. The word postulant comes from the Latin postulare, meaning “to ask.” It’s a fitting description for this early stage of formation, where each man has spent time asking the Lord where he is being called and learning more about Capuchin life.

Now, as novices, they begin a year focused on prayer, community, and preparing for the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Receiving the habit for the first time is a powerful sign of their desire to follow Christ in the footsteps of St. Francis.

Please keep Br. Hunter, Br. Daniel, Br. Ben, and Br. Cassian in your prayers, along with the six men preparing to begin postulancy this month!
