Blessed Solanus Casey was a Capuchin friar known for his gentle presence and deep trust in God. He spent much of his life welcoming visitors at the door of the friary, listening to their stories, praying with them, and encouraging them to keep going. His holiness was found in small, steady acts of love.
These are a few lessons we can learn from the way he lived:
1. Thank God ahead of time
Solanus often told people to thank God before they received what they were praying for. He believed God was already working, and that gratitude was part of trusting Him.
2. Be present
He welcomed each person with attention and care. Whether someone was sick, searching, or simply needed to talk, Solanus made time for them. He listened with patience.
3. Live simply
His days were shaped by prayer, service, and small joys like playing the violin. He stayed focused on what mattered and remained faithful in the little things.
4. Pray often
When people shared their worries, Solanus would say, “Worry is a sign we need to pray more.” He brought everything to God in prayer and encouraged others to do the same.
5. See the person in front of you
He treated every visitor with respect and kindness. He once said, “Blessed be God in all His designs.” That included the people who came to him for help.
Blessed Solanus Casey, pray for us!
