Friar Friday – Fr. Hai Ho, OFM Cap

Happy #FriarFriday! We hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving with your family and loved ones! Today we want to introduce you to our Vicar Provincial, Post-Novitiate Formation Director and Guardian Fr. Hai Ho, OFM Cap!

Father Hai has been a friar for 16 years. He knew he wanted to join the Brotherhood in 2004, and we are so grateful that he did! Born in Malaysia to refugee parents who were enroute to the US from Vietnam, Father Hai grew up in San Jose, CA. He is currently at St. Conrad Friary in Berkeley, CA.

During his free time, Father Hai can be found running or doing HIIT training, playing guitar, reading, listening to an audiobook or watching the day’s NBA highlights! He enjoys cooking recipes that include nước mắm (fish sauce) or peanut butter, and he loves to start the day with a bowl of cereal. We think a day with Father Hai would be pretty great!!

We asked Father Hai what his favorite prayer was, but he couldn’t decide. “This is a tough call… it is a toss up between these three: The Prayer of Saint Francis before the Crucifix, Prayer of Saint Francis for the Entire Order or the Suscipe Prayer of Saint Ignatius of Loyola.”

Thank you to all that Father Hai does for us in the Order, as well as for his daily prayers for all of our special intentions.

Read Father Hai’s favorite prayers below:

The Prayer of Saint Francis before the Crucifix
“Most High glorious God, enlighten the darkness of my heart. Give me right faith, sure hope and perfect charity. Fill me with understanding and knowledge that I may fulfill your command.”

Prayer of Saint Francis for the Entire Order
“Almighty, eternal, just and merciful God,
give us miserable ones
the grace to do for You alone
what we know you want us to do
and always to desire what pleases You.
Inwardly cleansed,
interiorly enlightened
and inflamed by the fire of the Holy Spirit,
may we be able to follow
in the footprints of Your beloved Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ,
and, by Your grace alone,
may we make our way to You,
Most High,
Who live and rule
in perfect Trinity and simple Unity,
and are glorified
God almighty,
forever and ever.
Amen.”

Suscipe Prayer of Saint Ignatius of Loyola
“Take Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, all that I have and possess. Thou hast given all to me. To Thee, O lord, I return it. All is Thine, dispose of it wholly according to Thy will. Give me Thy love and thy grace, for this is sufficient for me.”
