When people think of Capuchin ministry, they often picture friars walking with the poor, visiting the sick, serving in soup kitchens, or preaching in parishes. And that’s all true. The heart of Capuchin life is a life of presence, being with those who are often forgotten, those on the margins, and those most in need of mercy.
But ministry can take many forms.
Sometimes, Capuchin ministry looks like teaching calculus.
Sometimes it’s helping students in the robotics lab.
Other times it’s just being available during lunch when a student needs someone to talk to or even wants to go to confession.
These are the kinds of moments captured at Saint Francis High School in La Cañada, California, one of only two Capuchin-run high schools in the entire United States. On this campus, four friars live in community and serve the students, faculty, and staff.
At Saint Francis High School, the friars live out the Gospel through their daily presence. And for the young men walking those same hallways, it just might plant the seed of a vocation.
